I was told that much of my money goes towards admin as opposed to those who really need it in Africa etc courtesy of Actionaid etc. Is this truly the case?

  1. I do have a few charities that I give to regularly but always remember that charity begins at home. Always help your own before others. Then you know to whom and to where your money is going like a family member or a neighbour. The Lord also helps those who help themselves.

  2. The amount spent by charities on administrative costs vs. direct aid varies widely. I always check with either groups that evaluate charites or with governmental agencies that report on charities before donating; and I recheck periodically for the charities I give to once a year.

One evaluator I use is Charity Navigator. I'm not who provides a similar service in the UK or Europe, although Charity Navigator does evaluate some international charities.

  3. yes thats a very good ans by Sean` i agree with that` my fav though is the Salvation-Army`?

  4. they say always soem never see the charities.. thats why i wonder why they ask for the help if they dont give it to them.

  5. The only corporation that I know of that donates 100% of funds to worthwhile causes is the Red Cross. I vowed that I will never donate to a church again. The pastor wears armani suits and drives a mercedes.....but he says every sunday that the church is in terrible need of money...it just doesn't make sense to me haha

  6. It varies from case to case.

You'll have to check out the website to do homework.

Some give as much as 90% others have been known to give as little as 1/10th of 1 percent.

There are no rules stating what the minimum amount of donations must go to the recipient.

  7. Yes, it can be... a lot of charities will only give a small percentage of your donation to the people who need it (If you ask them they should tell you the percentage)

Some charities however give 100% of the money to the people who need it, these are pretty rare though.

Don't forget charaties are big business. I was shocked to find out that during the tsunami in Asia.. on average only 42% of the money donated got to the people.. it was consumed with admin charges.. back handers and corruption in the countries concerned.. even some of it going to the government.

I only have a few charaties that I give too, for this reason and I research them fully before I make my donation.. I will have a look around and see if I can find you some figures but check out the link below.. its a charity checker..

  8. Not giving at all is not the solution to the problem. Researching prior to giving is a solution. I give to several charities but I researched their money distribution first.
