Question:

How much money an hour would a cop get if s/he gets a masters degree in criminal justice?

if this person worked in California, how much would s/he get an hour? please no answers about how cops don't' become cops for the money, i know this but i still want to be able to support a family. and how much would it be without any degree? thanks to all who answered.

You would start at entry level.  If you are bilingual then you can apply for the additional bilingual pay.  Your degree won't come into play until you apply for a higher position or a special unit.  The amount of pay varies in each city.  You can go to their city website and find out the pay.  Remember a lot of people think that just because they take all these classes in college that they are police qualified.  You still have to pass the tests especially the psychological test which a lot of people fail and the physical agility test. Then you have to make it through the academy.  Good luck!


  2. I am going to college for criminal justice.

    Sadly their really is no difference between a cop with a bachelors degree and one with a masters. However, with a masters you have a better chance of entering the police force at a federal or state level rather than a local one. If that is the case, you can probably expect to start off around 60,000 a year. That comes out to be about 5000 a month and 1250 a week before taxes are taken out.

    Of course as your rank goes up, so does your pay. your degree will help you mostly earn ranks faster because they would consider you more if you are doing your job well as an officer.
