  1. One that owns his or her own business? A lot! We're talking millions per year, assuming they get a lot of business. Things they have to pay for are employee salary and medical equipment. The average cost for a basic exam can be anywhere from $25.00 to $70.00. If you're a big business, then you're going to be getting in anywhere from 9-12 animals in per hour for an exam. You also need to take into considering all of the surgeries performed daily. A surgery can be anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, and surgeries are usually performed daily.

Let's say a vet has about 50 exams a day and every exam is $50.00. That's $2,500 just in exams. Say there is 10 surgeries, each estimated to be about $800.00. There's another $8,000. So far we're over $10,000 a day. Of course, every day isn't going to be like this, but say it's a busy day, and they get this much business, while slower days may bring in about half that much, at about $5,500 a day. Now figure it up!
