If I want to chat for 3 minutes by using a public phone, how much money do I need?

Does the phone tariff in Heathrow airport is the same as the public phone in the streets?

  1. In any standard BT (British Telecom) public phone, the minimum charge is 40p, which will buy you 20 minutes of talk time to a UK land line. Any additional call time is charged at the rate of 10p = 10 minutes.

These phones may accept UK coins, credit/debit cards, charge cards or a combination of these. Some also accept Euro coins (at the rate of 1 Euro = 60p).

The above only applies to BT phones. Public phones operated by other companies are likely to charge at different rates.

  2. The cost depends on what sort of call you are making - local/national/international and also on exactly what number you are calling - 'special numbers' can be quite expensive.
