It depends on the bank but its usually $25 But I would recommend you stay away from Chevy Chase bank because they do not have Freud assistance. So if your buying stuff online with your check card and someone steals your identity and your money they will not reimburse you.

When I opened mine, they wanted at least $20 in there, and required at least $1 in the account to keep it active.
