  1. 500 Chuckee Cheese Dollars, lol.....Actually about $35,000-$45,000 per year on average.

  2. THE MAJORITY OF JOCKEYS IN THE US GET A SMALL FEE FOR EVERY HORSE THEY RIDE BY THE RACETRACK.THIS DOES NOT AMOUNT TOO TOO MUCH MONEY,MOST OF THE JOCKEYS MONEY IS EARNED BY PLACEING IN THE TOP 5 IN A RACE.THEY GET 10% OF A HORSE EARNINGS FOR A RACE.THE HIGHER THE FINISH,THE MORE THE MONEY.

DONT FORGET THAT MOST JOCKEYS HAVE "AGENTS" WHO GET THEM THE RIDES EVERYDAY,THEY GET THEIR FEE FROM THE JOCKEYS SHARE.

ALSO,JOCKEYS ALSO "WORK" HORSES IN THE MORNINGS FOR TRAINERS TO MAYBE GET A RIDE DURING THE HORSES NEXT RACE.THEY ALSO GET PAID FOR THIS.

TO PUT IT IN EASIER TERMS FOR YOU,IF A JOCKEY RIDES 300 RACES AND HIS HORSES EARNED $1,000,000, IN PURSE MONEY.THE JOCKEY MADE ABOUT $100,000 AND FROM THIS HE PAYS HIS AGENT(10-15%) AND THE  I.R.S(25-40%)..WHATS LEFT OVER IS FOR HIM/HER.

    RIDERS UP.........

  3. Most get nothing while a few make a lot.

  4. Some jockeys are paid what is called a retainer.  This is a monthly, or yearly, payment that guarantees the jockeys availability for a certain trainer or owner.

For example in GB, Frankie Dettori is retained by Godolphin, Keiran Fallon is retained by Ballydoyle and Richard Hughes is retained by Khlaid Abdulla.

There is no way of knowing how much these retainers are worth, but in the case of the above jockeys I'd say tens of thousands of pounds.

Other jockeys do not earn a set wage.  They rely on getting the rides and winning prize money.

In GB flat jockeys are paid a set rate of £96.35 + VAT for EVERY horse they ride, regardless of whether it wins or not.  On top of that they will earn approx 10% of the prize money should the horse finish in the money.

After winning big races some owners will also give their jockey a bonus:  I know for a fact that, after winning the Derby on Authorised, Frankie was given a brand new Bentley by the horse's owners as a thank you.

The link below will take you to the page of the Britsih Rules of Racing which lists the amounte payable to flat jockeys, jump jockeys and Aprrentice riders:

  5. jockey make between 35 and 50 dollars per mount.

and get 10% of the purse money. most tracks pay from

    1st to 5th place.

garret gomez is the leading jockey so far this year, 16 million dollars,

his take so far is 1.6 million and growing, he is known as a money

rider, in any big race do not count him out.......

  6. Here in the Us some are kept on retianer by a certain trainer or owner. Those contracts would be individually negociated and they could be worth nothing to millions.

They are paid a set price per mount that they ride and they get a percentage of the purse money for each race.

Many do quite well if they ride a good percentage of winners.
