  1. Volunteer coordinators are people who are responsible for recruiting, screening and initially training volunteers at a nonprofit organization. Often, they are also the supervisors (although volunteers should work in a variety of departments and, therefore, be supervised by the staff of those departments.

Some volunteer coordinators are volunteers themselves. Some are members of the paid staff. Most volunteer coordinators have other duties -- the volunteer coordinator is ALSO the marketing director, or also a program manager, or also the executive director's assistant. So it's hard to say what such is paid, since usually, volunteer coordination isn't their only job.

The amount of money volunteer coordinators make also varies hugely from organization to organization, depending on both the budget of the organization, the number of volunteers involved, and how much the organization relies on volunteers. If volunteers help with administrative tasks and stuff envelopes, the volunteer coordinator isn't going to make much. If there are hundreds and hundreds of volunteers involved in an organization, and volunteers are central to the services provided by the organizations -- if, without volunteers, there would be no or few services -- the volunteer coordinator makes a lot more.

All that said, Abbott, Langer & Associates did a Nonprofit Compensation Summary Salary in 2006 for 130 benchmark jobs in nonprofits across the United States
