  1. Generally you are supposed to cover how much your plate will cost. That is, if they are feeding you.

What you might want to do is call the place they are having the reception at and tell them you will be attending a wedding there, adn ask how much it costs per plate. They will be happy to tell you.

Sometimes it's $20 a plate, and at nicer places it ends up being $100 a plate. Plus if it is an open bar, factor in that amount too.

The place I'm getting married at, plates are $65 per person, and we went for top shelf liquor so that's $37 per person.

  2. Do you still hang out? If not then $25, if you do then $100

  3. You'll want to give at least what your dinner (and your guest if you're bringing one) amounts to. If you want to get out of giving that kind of money, because it can get pretty expensive to cover your meals, try looking up your highschool friend's registry. Pick a couple of nice items or try something on sale to save $$. If the couple does not have a registry, try buying a simple household item, like a wafflemaker or toaster oven or something like that. But wedding ettiquette states you should at least cover the cost of your meal.

  4. 100 at the least

  5. $100 maybe?

  6. You give what you want to give. The minimal requirement is that you send a handwritten letter or note expressing that you are happy for your friend. It is usual for those who attend a reception or are otherwise treated to a meal, a party, a dance, etc to send a gift to express their thanks, but the gift is geared to the giver's means -- not the level of entertainment provided.

  7. I don't normally give money, but as far as gifts go I just gave one that was $50 to a high school friend (I wasn't that close to) this past weekend.

  8. I don't generally give my friends money for their wedding.  Buy them a gift, sure, but give them money? Weird.

  9. Can you not get them something off their registry? That way you can probably spend as little or as much as you want. I would say it depends on how much you see them. About $20 if you havent seen them for years and years, $50 if you are still friends and $100 if you are really good mates nowadays

  10. I guess it depends how well you know the friend, and what your budget looks like. I'd say $40-50, but a gift from their registry would be fine. Hope this helps!

  11. You are absolutely NOT required to cover your plate. You give what you can/want to give. There is no set amount.

  12. It would depend on how close I was to the couple.  I would spend more on a very dear friend, than I would for a casual friend from high school.

    Best wishes!!!!!!!!

  13. i try to atleast cover for my plate (and if i brought a guest for their plate as well) so it really varies.. but if a friend from high school invited you to their wedding then youre probably still good enough friends.. i wouldnt do less than 100. but thats just my opinion.

  14. No cash.  A $25 gift is enough.  If they put out a bowl for cash donations, they are being very, very tacky.
