We're trying to decide if we want to move there and live comfortably.

A high paying job and before you move make sure you're able to meet all your financial obligations (mortgage, rent, bills, car notes, etc) without having to struggle on a daily basis to meet them. Move in an area you can afford. If you're buying a home, you might want to start with something small, one that you can easily afford. Don't try to live above your means. Good luck
