My friend in the Philippines has $1700 in her account to visit me in Spain for 2 weeks, when she had the interview for the issue of a tourist visa, she was told she did not have enough money for her stay! and the tourist visa was declined. Well, how much is enough??. Can anyone give us advice?

  2. It's not just a matter of showing enough money to prove that you can afford your vacation abroad, there should still be enough for her to live on when she comes back home.  After all, it doesn't make sense for her to blow all her money on her vacation.  They want to know is she is really going on a vacation or if she is planning to stay there illegaly and look for a job there since she doesn't have enough to come back to.  What she needs to do is to get a letter from her employer stating that she is gainfully employed and will be taking a 2 week vacation but will be coming back to work after her vacation and to state exact dates.  It's also a good advice from an earlier answer to get a letter from you stating that your friend will be visiting you and you will be taking care of her expenses while she is there.  Then she needs to borrow some money from some relatives to deposit in her account, this is going to be her "show" money.  The amount you will need will be approximately how much she will be spending daily on her vacation and atleast a month's worth of living expenses when she comes home.  For example: 14 days x 100 Euros plus her after vacation living expenses of approximately $1000.   This should take care of the requirements.

  3. I had a similar problem when my friend from South Africa visited me in Tenerife. They wanted her to have 300 Euros per day which is roughly 5000 U.S. dollars for a 2-week stay. I had to write a letter to the Spanish Embassy in my friend's home country stating that I would be responsible for her during her stay. She got her visa. Good luck with your friend.
