How much money do you save on gas switching to hybrid?

since hybrid runs on both gas and battery how much money would you save in a year if you switch to hybrid.

Not much considering that a hybrid costs a lot more than a reqular car.  In many cases, you would have to drive about 50000 miles before you can start truly reaping the benefits of driving a hybrid versus having bought the regular version of that vehicle.

a hybrid costs more then a regular car plus if a part breaks they wont have it in stores and u have to special order it so with the car probably 50 to 60 thousand and it depends on the type of part u break

you left out a lot of crucial info,

ie how much you drive and how much gas costs butttt........

well a prius gets up to 100 miles plus per gallon vs a regular car which tops at 32 maybe.

so lets average

60mpg on prius

25mpg on reg car.

60mpg@ 60 miles per day @ 3.10 per gal=  $3.10 a day

VS.

25mpg@60 miles per day @ 3.10 per gal= $7.44 a day

so over the course of a year.(again this is averaged)

Regular Car                                 Prius

$ 2715.60                                   $1131.50

a savings of $ 1584.10

2008 Prius versions sell for $20,950

2008 Accord versions sell for $21,860

enough math get a prius and save the enviroment

or get a bike :)

That really depends on what type of driving you do.  Where the hybrid vehicles really shine is city use ( where you get the most benefit of having the battery operate the electric motors ).  On the highway, the gasoline engine takes over so if most of your driving is highway use, there really is no benefit to having a hybrid.  You could even argue that a hybrid is slightly worse on the highway since it has to carry all the additional weight of the batteries and the electric motor ( but most hybrids still shine on the highway because most of them use smaller gasoline motors and they have been tweaked to be aerodynamically cleaner ( less drag ).

Roughly half what you normally spend on gas, but you have to buy the car first......so don't switch unless you really need a new car.
