I have already got a place to stay, so that is taken care of. Im talking about spending money. I am coming for one month & i need a idea of how much i need to bring with me. Would 2500 pounds be enough or should i bring more? Thats $5000 to me.

  1. Oh my god, that's PLENTY! You don't need that much, but if you take that much, you'll be able to do everything! And if you're not paying for your accommodation, then you'll have plenty to take back with you at the end of your trip.

Consider getting a railcard for the time you're here. If you intend to ride the underground or the busses, you'll find it saves you loads of money.

Remember to check out the rest of the UK though - we have a lot of hidden gems around here - it's Shakespeare Country! If you're interested in other cities, WINCHESTER was the capital in the middle ages. It's home to the round table, which I'm sure you've heard of in the stories of King Arthur and Camelot, as well as the famous cathedral. BATH has the Roman Baths and a beautiful abbey, Stonehenge near SALISBURY (prn "sawls-bree"),  the ISLE OF WIGHT is beautiful, and if you're brave, go up north to SCOTLAND and experience real awe looking over the lochs...

  2. £500 a week is not really that much if you want to have a proper proper vacation, ie drinking, shopping, cabs and clubs. I would recommend £700 a week, which is about £2800 pounds, $5600. London is alot more expensive than America, also due to the bad exchange rate. A normal drink in a bar is about £3-5 ($6-10)

  3. I'd have to say that that is enough and perhaps more than.

Although London is very expensive, unless you have excessive spending habits £2500 should be more than enough.

Baring in mind you already have a place, personally if it was me I'd take £1000 - £1500. However I could be one of the conservative spenders.

Oh, I'd also like to point out that in London most things cost money, they even charge to use their bathrooms in some places.

For a month, if you have to buy food I expect that will cost around £500 or less. So unless where your staying thats included, you'll want to take extra for that.

One word of warning however. Remember, London is full of con artists, pickpockets etc. who pry on unexpecting tourists. Remain cautious.

  4. should be fine as long as you budget carefully.  Enjoy!

  5. Well its very expensiver here. Everything is double or 3 times more then in the US. It really depends on what you want to do?

I would bring a little extra just incase

  6. Hostels: you buy a bed, not a room and sleep in a dorm. Size and number of beds in the dorm depend upon the price you pay. Generally hostels are very safe, though theft can be a bit of a problem so use some common sense.

The Generator is a very famous hostel:

but there are others. Look for a hostel with discounts for people who stay long-term - it will be the easiest and cheapest way to stay.

Hotels in London are very expensive, similar to downtown Manhattan or Tokio. Expect to pay around 3000 USD for a month in a cheap hotel.

If neither hotel nor hostel appeal to you, look into staying at a Bed&Breakfast or rent an appartment for the month you are there.

  7. Well, we did the free stuff in London and had a really good time on a tenner a day (travelcard/food only) but if you are talking 'shop til you drop', shows and meals out daily then £500 pw should easily cover all but the most exclusive and exorbitant purchases.

There are lots of expensive 'money-trap' pitfalls in London, so try to avoid them even if you do have more money than most - no-one wants to waste it! I heard the Big Bus tours were a rip-off and a waste of money but that was just one person's view. Some of the free fun activities are just the same amount of fun whether you have money or not - so look out for those!

  8. depends on where you want ot stay, i stayed in london for a months recently and it was over 5000 pounds for boarding, food, and the tube

  9. For holidays, I usually calculate that I'm gonna need about £100 per day [very approx $200 per day] - that's $1,400 a week - that's $5,600.oo for the month.  Hopefully, you will come away with change.  In English money that's about £2,800.oo

If you are gonna stay a month, you will need an Oyster Card.  You can find out about the Oyster Card at this link below . . .
