How much money do you think most people keep in their checking account?

I know the rich people probably have alot. But what about the "average joe"??

I would say about 3,000 to 5,000.

Most people do not keep more than enough to cover one to two months of bills.  The rest (if they have any additional money) is usually in a savings or money market account, and transferred to checking, as needed.

Truthfully?  They likely have their Paycheck deposited into their account and they spend the balance down to $0 by their next paycheck.

I work at a bank, and our last annual report showed an average of about $1000.

AN AVERAGE JOE I SAY 800-1200.

A COLLEGE STUDENT 300-600.

SOMEONE IN DEBT 200-500.

A SPENDER 100-300.

We keep just enough money to pay our bills.  When and if we run short we call the bank and transfer money from a savings account.  The reason is that checking pays almost no interest and the savings at our bank pays 2.5%.  A little is better than nothing.  We are retired, so have to manage our money well.

I would guess an average person has about $500 in their account at any time.  Not me, I'm always living from one check to the next...but hopefully my situation is not the norm right now.
