d**k Cheney has a salary of $208,575, which pales in comparison to what he used to make. Nevertheless, he still made a total of $2,528,068 in the last year. Of that, he paid $602,651 in taxes and donated $166,547 to charity, giving a total of  $7,966,566 to charity while VP.

His responsibilities are limited, mostly to be the tie breaking vote in the Senate, in the event of a 50-50 tie, and to lead the country should the President step down or be unable to continue in office.

However, as demonstrated by the first response to this question, his tenure as VP has sparked a lot of rage with the left. This is because Cheney has had an extraordinary amount of power in shaping the decisions that were made in foreign policy and fighting terrorism. I believe his power included swaying Bush to invade and depose the Taliban in Afghanistan, and Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

Has he done a good job? That is entirely up for debate and depends on your viewpoint and how you measure a good job. Some might measure this by respecting terrorists privacy rights and by giving Osama bin Laden and his cronies the presumption of innocence in a court of law.

Others may take an opposing view. They might see the world as a dangerous place that is better off without terrorist training camps in Afghanistan and without Saddam Hussein still waiting for the world  to look the other way so he could restart his weapons programs.
