  1. Choreographers generally don't get paid per month.  It's usually a per-show thing.

    You don't necessarily need a degree to become one, but I would recommend getting one...it shows your employer that you do know what you're doing.  The vast majority of choreographers have degrees, but there are the very very select few that don't.  But get one just to cover your bases...it can't hurt.

    More than anything though, you need experience.  The more you have choreographed, the better.  You learn something new from each experience, and having a lot under your belt will help to show people that you know what to do and that you're the one to hire.
