How much money does a politician make in genral?

not counting under the table cause. am a high school student that has no idea what to do in life then someone told me i would make a good politician.

Usually twice what their constituents (average) do.  

It's more about the perks than the actual pay check.  For instance George Bush "only" makes about $300,000 as president, but what other hundredthousandollar-aire do you konw who has his own wait staff, plane and chaffeur?
