  1. I think the national average is in the 20ks....

Use www.collegeboard.com to search specific colleges and figure out the average cost of each, and their breakdowns.

  2. Heather - that's like asking how much money does dinner cost.

There are elite and very expensive private schools, there are moderately priced private schools, and there are relatively cheap private schools.

    Keep something else in mind...

When you evaluate the cost of education at a school, tuition is just one small part of the whole picture. At most schools, the cost of your room and board can easily exceed the cost of tuition. There are also a variety of university fees, and anyone who has gone to college recently will tell you that the price of books will make your eyeballs pop out of your head.

Those costs can also vary significantly from school to school. Schools in large cities charge more for the dorms and food - schools with newer facilities charge more for the dorms and food - schools in rural areas sometimes have very reasonable rates for dorms and food.

In 2006, the tuition alone at private schools averaged $23,712 a year. At public universities, students paid an average of $6185, about 74 percent less.

College tuition has been increasing at a rate of about 4 to 7 percent every year.

I hope that information helped, but you really need to evaluate the cost of a specific school - "averages" won't shed much light on how expensive it will be to attend one particular private university.

  3. It depends where the school is located, what the target market is, the grade levels it offers, whether or not it is a boarding school and what the curriculum includes.

In parts of Canada, you can attend a private school for as little as $400.00/per month/per child or as much as $20,000.00 per year/per child.
