one of my best friend is having a thrid baby shower thrown by a co-worker. she has a 6 y/o and 2y/o daughter, and is pregnant w/ a boy. how much is acceptable to spend?

ps. i'm in our mutual friend's wedding and planning that, so she's knows money is very tight. and i also have a 5 month old baby, my first.

ps. we've been friends since we were 12, and now we're 26 and 27, so we're close, but i'm broke! and i just found out about this baby shower last week!! and it's today!

  1. I think what you have already purchased is enough.  The coworker is probably throwing this shower to ingratiate herself to the mother-to-be.  I'm sure that if she has a 2-year old she really only needs some outfits for a boy.  You can also offer to share your child's hand-me-downs with her.

  2. Since your friend has already had two children, she probably has everything she needs -- except for little boy things.  What you have already bought is perfect for the shower, and I am sure your friend will appreciate it very much.

  3. I think that it's rude to have more than one baby shower, but I am old school.  It's just another reason for her to get more stuff.  When I was your age, you got one bridal and one baby shower.  Period.  Anything else was rude.

Buy what you can afford.  Don't over spend on your budget.  You already gave at the last two, so don't sweat it.  Or just don't get her anything and come down with the flu.  I've used that in the past a great many times.

  4. if you want to give some value-added give her a pretty computer-designed certificate for some baby sitting, maybe the two older girls while she is in hospital with the baby so her husband can visit alone? or after she comes home so they can nip out for coffee together?
