On average there are not many Vietnamese that live on their own.  Since living in both the country side of Vietnam and now here in Hanoi i would say that if on their own with no help they will need about 100 USD  per month.  For most cases though it seems that the average for a household is about 200-250 per month.


  2. average vietnamese earn about 60USD in cities and 40USD in provinces. This gives you an idea how much they can survive.. However do note that many household does share their income to survive ie to pay for daily expenses eg food, rental, electricity etc. For food expense per person, I would say 1USD is sufficient for most people to get by.

  3. It depends on where are you living. If you live in the city and you have high demand in living. You need more money. The cities in Delta Mekong is less expensive comparing to Saigon or Hanoi. EX cost of one ice coffee in Saigon is 15,000 Dong (close to $1US), you will pay only 7,000 Dong (close to 50cent US) in the cities of Delta Mekong.

    I think $40-$50 US is good to live.
