I have seen the series two TiVo going for $99 at Bet Buy, but I got mine at Big Lots for $69. The service is about $100 a year. If you go month to month it runs up to $15 per month. I always recommend paying for the year up front because I pay my cable bill month to month. The TiVo bill on top of that would really be annoying.

As with any service the more you want the more you pay, but you can rent movies for as little as $1.99 from amozon.com/unbox This way you can buy movies through your TiVo as DVD's or downloads. The downloads are the coolest thing. They are on file at amazon.com and you can watch them anytime. I usually like to buy the DVD if it a movie I want to bring somewhere to watch away from home.

I also watch the TV show I record at home to my TiVo on my laptop at the doctors office or where I am waiting for something. TiVo is worth it for me, I am not home enough to enjoy the cable I am paying for and with TiVo I can watch my TV a new way, where ever I want, when ever I want, in different way than I thought possible. Tivo has returned the Lifetime subscription for $399 not including the Tivo.

If you plan on owning your Tivo for more than 2 years then this is the way to go. It pays for itself quickly.

$12.99/month service fee * 12 months = $155.88

$12.99/month service fee * 24 months = $311.76

So after 2 1/2 years your Tivo has paid for itself.
