  1. a must have for visiting the dominican republic is you insurance card, because you will need, why you ask , well, 2 out of 4 family members spent 5 out of 7 days in the hospital there, and the other 2 members spent time in urgent care when they got back,. it, a UGLY, Poverty sticken third world country, i wld advise not to go, stay away form grand paradise resort

  2. 1 week stay = 1.200 us

    2 week stay = 2000 us

    Al depending on your lifestyle.

  3. Hi,

It depends on how long are you going to stay, if you are planning to do any excursions, to buy souvenir or gamble.

If you are staying in all inclusive resort you can bring an average per day of US$120 dollars. (depends on you)

    Good luck!!

  4. If going all inclusive and dont plan on buying a ton of souveneers, id say not much, the more you bring the more you worry about, however bank machines(atms) are unreliable and often empty. One tip however bring lots of small denominations, its a big deal to get change and comes in handy for tipping

  5. Well, Dominican Republic isn't that expensive.  If you're coming from the US, the exchange rate is at about $33.9 pesos to the USD.  So, going into the stores/"colmados" over there, you'd find a lot of the products cheaper, but not buy much.  However, if you plan on buying lots of souvenirs, you should bring plenty of money because you'll find so many different things you'll want to take with you.  Personally, when I go for about a month, I bring no less than $1,500USD, mainly because I don't want to find myself in an emergency without any money.  It all depends on what your budget is, what the hotel itself provides you, and how much money you consider "walking around money" to be.

  6. Not expensive if you are outside the tourist sectors.  But inside those resort areas and it's American prices for food, clothes, and gifts.  But at an all inclusive, you have your food and drink taken care of.  Most have enough variety that you don't feel the need to go out and buy more.  Tours are around $50 each, so if you want to do them.  You can take trips yourself for much cheaper.  It's about a .50 cents for a public bus in the cities, about a dollar for a motorcycle taxi to take you door to door.  The buses across country are less than $10 one way.

If you stay to the hotel, bring $20/day for tips and odds and ends.  I live here and have no problems with ATM machines and you get the best exchange rate.  ATM's are at all supermarkets, many gas stations, and banks which are plentiful in all the cities (Puerto Plata, Santiago, Santo Domingo).  I don't recommend traveller's checks and do bring small denominations (dollars are accepted and can also be used for tips).
