  1. Tuition for non-LDS students at BYU (Provo, Utah) is $3840 per semester.  This is twice as much as it is for a LDS student.

Other expenses including books, housing, and personal expenses cost an average of $5800 per semester.  This amount depends mostly on the cost of your lifestyle, not on your religious affiliation.

Tuition for non-LDS students at BYU-Idaho is $3060 per semester.  Books, housing, and personal expenses can range between $5000 and $7500 depending on your lifestyle preferences.

  2. BYU (Provo)

    FT Undergratuate Tuition 08/09:

    LDS - $2040

    Non-LDS - $4080

FT Graduate Tuition 08/09 (Not including Management and Law Schools):

    LDS - $2580

    Non-LDS - $5160

Note: Non-degree seeking students pay graduate prices.

    BYU-Idaho

FT 2008/2009 School Year Projected Tuition rates:

LDS: $1585 (plus fees & books)

    Non-LDS: $3170 (plus fees & books)

BYU-I projects housing costs to be about $2080/semester, and this estimate does not include personal or transportation expenses.  A note on transportation, most apartments are within walking distance of campus and the campus is not designed to drive around, so many students don't even bring a car.

Housing costs are not based on religion.  You just have to live in college approved housing (if you are single) and obey the Honor Code (which you must agree to follow and sign a contract stating so before you will be admitted to either school).

Look at it this way.  Instead of having in-state and out-of-state tuition, the LDS church schools have LDS and non-LDS tuition rates.

The reason it is cheaper for the LDS students is because of tithing funds from LDS members around the world.  Tithing funds are used to supplement LDS students tuition, but not non-LDS.

My husband and I are currently LDS students at BYU-Idaho.  It's great, hope you come!  =)
