My Dad and stepmom live in canada, but my stepmom already signed for my dad, she cant do more than one person in like 9yrs, and my dad not being a true canadian cant sign for me. i went to immagration.ca and it wanted me to pay like $94. I just want to know when should i start the process if i want to be there by next summer? and i think i am going to go over to study so i would use that visa, but i just want to know all of the steps and how much money do i need to save up?

  1. With respect to dual citizenship think carefully as I am a dual citizen and it can be a nightmare when you travel esp. after 9/11.  Homeland Security has been on my behind frequently asking me to report to one of their offices - They are not just targeting me, they are doing their job. Some officials think that being a dual means you have no commitment to either country.  You will need a lawyer who specializes in this law, a mistake could keep you trapped in one of the 2 countries for a long period of time.  This dual thing was done when I was a kid, if I had my choice I would be a single citizen with a passport.

  2. You have to become a resident of Canada first and then after living in Canada for about 5 or so years you can apply to become a Canadian citizen.

My daughter has dual citizen ship because she is my daughter and she was born in Canada.  She can get a passport for my old country because I still have citizenship there (dual).  Being that you were not born in Canada you must immigrate, take up residency and then become a citizen (if you want).  Sorry for the bad news BUT here is some good news if the programme is still in place and I think it is your Dad can apply for family re-unification and that may speed your way into Canada and it is worth a try.

Don't let the American poster put you off Canada doesn't have an office of Homeland security to hassle you BUT if you come from a country that the Americans have paranoid fantasies about then travelling through the States maybe a problem because they don't respect the rule of law for those born in those countries.

  3. The  amount asked for........$94 is for a Canadian passport to be issued to you.  It seems  to me that your citizenship is not yet clear in Canada,
