i'm going travelling around india in august for two months with a friend. i'm not sure how much i'll need when i get there for accommodation, transport and food and drink. i dont know anyone thats been and i have no idea myself. i dont want to end up running out of cash or constantly worried about prices. i thought £1000 might be sufficient.

  1. sepending on where you want to go, and what standard of accomodation, if you use planes trains or buses the answer will vary.

Take say 6 internal flights at about 50 pounds each  there is a third of your budget gone.

Stay in the Taj in Mumbai that will cost you at least 150 pounds a night.

Stay in a little guest house in Bombay for 6 pounds a night, take a train bombay to goa (for example) for about 5 pounds.

Have a beer in a local bar in goa for about 60pence, have a beer in the sports bar in bombay for three times the price.

    Do you get .

Either way 1000 pounds is on the low side. I would double it (take 50 pound notes) and you should be quite comfortable.

you can always make the odd atm withdrawl. But don't use debit cards for everything as one person suggested  as you will end up paying about 5 pounds transaction fee each time

Hope this helps and have fun

  2. 2000 usd will be sufficient

  3. it should be sufficient ..

    1000 gbp is about 80,000inr..

which should be enough for 2 months..

  4. you r staying couple of months two person.you should tke atleast 5000£ because costs of accommodation and traveling here and there need lots of money its up to your life style.you live like what?if u r staying in 5 star or 3 star what ever you should take atleasdt 5000 to india.

  5. Okay, I'm going to go soundly between the two you've been given already and say £2500 - for this reason simply, £500 is what a well earning Indian will earn in a month.  Bearing in mind he will still have standards much lower to yours - food, etc.  If you're going to budget yourself to £500 a month, you'll be leaving nothing spare for emergencies and don't forget, if anything does happen to you, your travel insurance covers you after the fact - meaning that you have to pay for it yourself.  Also any changes to your flights etc. will mean you'll have barely anything left.  Average it like this 500 a month is about £16 a day - about Rs 1333 - cheap accommodation a night will be upwards of maybe Rs 500  if you want livable.  By the time you take into account your lunch, dinner, bottled water, teas, transport in taxis and/or auto-rickshaws, you're not going to be left over with a lot.  Remember that you might be wanting to experience India without much luxury or whatever (and kudos to you) but you ARE still a Westerner and I think you're going to need more than what you're taking.  Travel isn't cheap no matter where you go.  Plus, if you hit touristy or metropolitan places like Goa, Bangalore or Mumbai, everything will be more expensive.  Be careful and plan wisely.  Or, you could take £1000 with you and have a credit card for a Travel Money card with you for back up.

    Have a great time.
