How much money should I bring to study abroad in Spain next spring 2009?

I am going to study abroad in Spain during spring 2009 for about three months. I will not have to pay for food, rent, or any bills...everything is included in my program price. So, while I'm there I'll have to bring money for going out, shopping, and I really want to travel. I'm thinking that somewhere between 2,500 USD and 3,000 USD is enough. I need to start saving now and I want to make sure that this is a good estimate for spending money. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. That is a good estimate, but to be honest, the more money you have, the better. You're probably not going to want to eat the program food for every meal, every day, and spain has some great restaurants, but they can be expensive. Traveling and shopping are expensive too. I would bring at least 3000 but more is always better.

  2. That's a pretty good estimate. But i'd bring more. the euro is more than the us dollar. Unless, you're a wise spender and not like me(i'd blow it in a month) hehe.. have fun.

  3. If you are a high school student, at a bare minimum you should have $250 per month to spend -- that is the recommendation and/or requirement of many programs. However, with the tanking dollar, I would recommend $350/month for your everyday needs (eating out, shopping, personal products, etc) with extra for travel. If you are with an exchange group, many times they offer pre-planned trips that you can take. Check with the group and they will give you an estimate on prices.

    Have a great time!
