So this week I've been fully cleaning my room. My mom said that'll she'll pay me $20. But I don't think that's enough because my room is big.

So what's a good amount?

  1. Your mom is being generous.  I was expected to keep my room clean when I was young, there was no money in it for me... I had to keep it clean or I was grounded.

  2. Why are you being paid for something that is normally expected of a child?

  3. I believe that you shouldn't even get $20. it's your room, it's your mess why should a parent have to pay his/her child for their mess.

  4. Sorry hon, but I don't think anyone should pay you for doing something you SHOULD be doing...now, I agree that an allowance each week, based on the child's age, is good for extra chores (like raking leaves, weeding the flowers, washing the dog) but day-to-day chores like making your bed, keeping your room clean and helping with dishes or what-have-you are things you should CONTRIBUTE as part of living in the house and being a member of your family.  No one pays your Mom (or Dad or guardian) for keeping THEIR rooms clean, etc...

I do not believe in monetary "bribes" for doing something that should be expected of you, as a member of your household.

    Sorry...but that's the way I feel...

  5. How about room and board?

Why should you get paid to clean your own stuff? I think it should be a part of living at home.

  6. you should get a clean room out of the deal, nothing more.  After all it is your room and only you benefit from it.

  7. N.O.T    A     S.I.N.G.L.E     P.E.N.N.Y!

  8. You are lucky to get anything.  You need to be bribed not to live in filth?  I never got paid, it was just satisfaction that i lived in a clean place.  YOU SHOULD GET NOTHING!!!!!!! Quit beig a brat.

  9. Your lucky to have a large room and your very fortunate to have nice parents that will give you money for cleaning your room.  Your room should be your responsibility without pay.

  10. You shouldn't be paid to clean YOUR bedroom nor should you have to be told to do so. I never got paid for cleaning my bedroom & didn't expect it either. It was my space, I lived & slept there, & I kept it neat & clean daily. In the spring & fall, I cleaned my room from top to bottom, cleaned out drawers, closets, windows, walls, woodwork, curtains, all bedding, rotated the mattress, etc.

  11. That's BS.  You should get $0.  It's your room, your mess, and your responsibility.

You shouldn’t get paid for something you should be required to do. I pay my kids when they volunteer to do something extra. They don’t get paid for what they’re supposed to do.

  12. i think 20 bucks is a good amount, cause it is YOUR room.

i never get money for cleaning MY room, you're lucky

  13. No money is a good amount. It is YOUR room, therefore it's YOUR mess. I don't get any money to clean my house, and I have 3 other people to clean up after too.

Your Mom is being very generous.

  14. How clean are you getting it. Are you moving everything around and cleaning behind, underneath and everything? If so 20 -30 is good. If you are just moving things out of the way she shouldn't have to pay you.

  15. You should get ZERO, and there should be consequences if you DON'T.

Tell your mother she's going to regret raising a spoiled brat.

  16. Nothing. It's your space. You should be expected to keep it clean without being paid.

  17. I'd take the $20 any day.

Nobody ever paid me to clean my room while i was growing up! Shoot, I'd love to get paid for cleaning my house now!! But i am just expected to do that without pay. AND without appreciation.

Enjoy the $20 while you're earning it. Believe me, that doesn't last forever!!

  18. nothing

its your room and unless you want to live in filth you should clean it

but if you are going to get paid try ask for 30 and see what shes says but 20 sounds good

  19. you shouldn't get any money for cleaning your room...you need to earn it by doing other chores around the house

  20. I wish my mom would pay me to clean my room! that would be nice but I doubt that would ever happen since I am grown and living on my own and my kids. I hate a messy room so it's always clean. Makes life easier. If you take something out, when your done with it, put it back. then you don't have to clean so often or have a major mess to clean.

  21. None.

You should be keeping your room clean in the first place, no matter how big it is.

...$20 is way too much in the first place.

  22. It is a trick. She pays you for cleaning the room and sets a precedent as a business relationship.  Then she starts charging you rent.

  23. I agree with most of the replies, you shouldn't be paid to clean your room. I always tell my kids, you don't get rewarded for just being good, you get rewarded for being exceptional and going above and beyond what is expected of you. The size of your room doesn't make a difference. What happens when it's your entire apartment or house? No one will pay you to clean that. You're just expected to do it. And you should want to keep it clean for yourself anyway, not just to get paid. Sorry!
