How much money should a family of seven spend on groceries?

Question

Two years ago, I was spending $90 including household items and toiletries. Now with the rising prices and teenage appetites, I average around $150 per week. I make almost everything from scratch, but everything is getting sooooo expensive!

how much you spend depends on your income and outgo.  with prices going up, we all hafta  prepare meals that go farther, casseroles etc. cut out junk foods.  buy cheaper cuts of meat and watch for sales. grocery stores nearby put reduced meat pkgs out often that have  experations dates on them buy em and freeze.

thats really good oyur doing great. clip coupons it may be annoying but some people save 100's of dollars by doing it

I agree you are doing amazing  we have 4 adults and one child and we spend about $400 a month which I think is pretty good. It is just really hard with the economy. I just try to buy all teh store brands not name brands, most of them taste pretty much the same and are like half the price, Good luck

your doing amazing as it is some people spend more than you and you are getting by with what you need, i know its tough with prices raising all over but stick to it and you and your family will come out fine

Well I tell yait's jus me, my hubby and my soon to be ten year old son who plays b-ball and eats a lot and we spend on average about $175 every other week about 350 a montha and that doesn't include the occasional trip to the grocery store to get bread, milk eggs and other items that we frequently run out of.

I'd say you're doing well spending that much on a family of seven. The gas prices have adversely affecting everything. Food has to be delivered, delivery costs have sky rocketed because of gas, everything that is delivered costs more.......

Try growing some of your own veggies - they are the most expensive items outside of Beef.............
