  1. you are referring to boarding. There are 3 types of boarding:

Full Board-with this your horse is keep in a stall, feed, watered, turnout, and sometimes groomed by the stable hands. The feed bill is on the stable. This can range form $450-$1200 a month.

Partial or rough board-The horse has a stall but you pay his own feed bill, feed him every day, water him everday, and muck, clean, and groom all yourself. Turnout is typically done by the stable. this can range from $200-$400 though it is usually on the less expensive side of this scale.

Pasture board- Your horse gets his own pasture and lives in this. He has a shelter/overhang but sometimes, if the pasture is shared with others, he may have an in and out  barn (a partially inclosed barn with no doors to the stalls so they may walk in and out as they please) this is the cheapest option but not all placaes offer it. The price is around $100-$200 per month. You pay feed, hay, etc. Usually the stable will water the horse, but they will never groom, check, nor blanket them. Sometimes you may have to help clean the pasture if it is large and shared with multiple people.

Besure to work out all the details. Horses are just fine in pasture board, though if the winter's are harsh and the horse is not a 'cold' breed I recommend a stall. All of our boarders pay full, they are left in the pasture as long as possible except in bad weather and night time. If your horse is a TB, QH, warmblood, arab, etc. A stall is best at night and cold weather. If you have a hardy horse, like a fjord or belgian, he will be fine outside.
