To start of with i am making 12.72 an hour and 13.72 on weekends (working every other). My boyfriend is making 13.5 and 19.5 for over time. We have a baby together 6 months old. We are planning on moving out on our own in about 7 months. We have no furiture or anything like that. Moving into a house would be ideal but i dont think we could. About how much should we save to get the **** out of my parents place?

  1. You need to take what you will be paying in rent and double that figure to get the amount you need for a deposit on the apartment.

Then you need to add in the starter groceries for a family of 3.

That could cost you around 400 the first time if you don't budget well. Things like condiments and long term items are going to add up quick. Consider everything you have in your parents fridgethat hardly ever get used. Those things will have to be bought new. Figure about 400 for the first time.(and don't forget cleaning agents)

Then you need to consider the cost of the furniture. You can go to yard sales and hand me down places to get starter furniture real cheap. Put the word out to all of your people that you know and ask for them to donate furniture that they no longer want. If you have a bigLots Odd Lots in your area then you can get a set of dishes for $20 and set of SIlverware for $20 or less, and a set of pots and pans for about $50, then a set of utensils for about $25-$30, baking pans $20-$40.

Consider your bed linens and curtains, which you can also get at variously cheap prices there as well.

I would say that if I bought everything brand new in my house right now it wouldbe about $25,000. That is on the basis of brand new though. I also have a computer desk that was expensive, and a king size bed with memory foam topper. It all adds up if you buy it all new. Thankfully some of my stuff was free.

When I started out with my first apartment with a baby and a husband, we needed $2000 just to get intot he apartment. That covered only the rent deposit(first and last months) the groceries and the cleaning stuff, plus curtains and a cheap TV.

If you are anxious to get out, I believe depending on the area you live in, you could do it with $2500 for everything if you went really cheap. I don't suggest rent a center for furniture but if you have to then so be it. Try to gather what you can now in free furniture, or cheap furniture. Go to yahoo groups and sign up to www.freecycle.org and try to ask for free furniture in your area. This will always help you out.

If I knew your area I could probably recommend a bunch more sites for you. You are welcome to email me and I could help you out with it. I've been really resourceful at things like this.

  2. 500 dollors

  3. Save enough to pay cash for whatever you need for your new place plus 3-6 months worth of expenses (food, rent, utilities, baby items, medical expenses, etc).

  4. You've going to have to save alot, especially since neither of you owns any furniture.  I'm assuming you don't own any  start-up items either like dishes, towels, utensils, etc.  If you move into a house, you'll probably have to rent.  You don't want to take on a mortgage and fixing up a house along with buying everything.  With renting you normally have to put down a security deposit and perhaps pay a couple months ahead of time.  Save every penny you can because rent, furniture and household items are EXPENSIVE.  Its hard to put a specific dollar amount down, but it will be in the thousands, unless you want to beg mommy and daddy for money every time you turn around.
