At least 1750 EUR based on the assumptions that you'll

1) stay for 35 days

2) stay at hostels or rent a room in a shared flat

3) eat food from the supermarket

4) do not party that much

5) limit your sightseeing.

To play it safe I would take 2000 EUR (3000 USD).

Add to this the cost of transport to and from Paris.

you can find accommodation starting to 20EUROS/night. A standard cheapest lunch starts at 10EUROS. A metro ticket (one trip) is 1.5EUROS. Do the math according to the # of days, add 30 EUROS per day for "other" expenses and as many as you want for souvenirs. I recommend you to have 2000EUROS  as a minimum, but keep in mind that the accommodation cost may make the difference!
