  1. US$10 million is a pretty good living in much of China, not in Hong Kong.  

    A million bucks is not what it used to be.  Any American who tries to retire with less than $1 million in very good high-yield investments is at serious risk of running out of money before age 85, maybe even by 75.  

    The dollar's buying power has dropped over 90% since 1980, so $10 million now is less than a million was worth less than 3 decades ago.  You can no longer define a person with only $10M as "rich."  A rather ordinary 4 BR home (one that cost about $25,000 new in 1975) now goes for a million in some parts of the US.  That's barely a middle-middle class existence.
