  1. Well it depends what you want to do.

I'm in Thailand right now and Ive been living on 1000baht a day and its been fine. You have to watch where you eat and what sighseeing you do and your transportation.

I booked all my hotel, flights(to Bangkok and to Phuket) and everything in advance.

I'm staying at the Howard Square Boutique Hotel and ts $20 a night and includes breakfast(buffet) and u get a fridge, microwave so its a great deal. I stayed at the Best Western Phuket Ocean Resort in Phuket for $29 a night(no food).

What I did was plan each day in advance and if I knew there was a day that would cost me more than 1000 baht(for say, transportation, souvieners, enterance fee, etc) then I would stay at the hotel for a day or 2. I went to the grocery stores alot(Gourmet Foods in Siam Paragon) and bought my food(hot dogs, bread, soup, etc).

go to hostels.com to find cheap hostels. Try to stay near the shopping tho(MBK, Siam Paragon, etc).

    Have a good trip!

  2. You should try going to hostels in eastern europe, I hear the entertainment is to DIE for!

  3. Obviously it depends on how long you plan to stay and how extravagant you plan on being. $50.00 a day does me just fine, but I tend to spend much less than a lot of people I know. I don't mind staying in cheap rooms and eating food from street vendors.

Here's a basic list of what things cost to help you get an idea. (34 baht to $1 U.S.)

Cheap hotel - 400-600 baht (and up)

Meal on the street, the way Thais eat -25 baht. (it's not bad)

Meal at a modest restaurant- 200 baht

Meal for two at a kind of nice place- 1000 baht

Starbucks coffee 100 baht (if I recall)

Large bottle of beer from 7/11- 50 baht

    Bottle of scotch- 700-1,000 baht

Drinks at a bar- 100-200 baht

Taxi ride most places around town- 60-80 baht

    Massage (legit)- 200 baht

Plane ride to Chaing Mai, or one of the islands- 1,500-3,000 baht (depends on how far ahead you book etc.

Anyway, that gives you an idea of how much stuff costs.

As far as where to stay, there's a ton of options. A lot of backpackers head to Khao San road. It's a collection of cheap guest houses, bars, and hawker stands, as well of tons of cheap tourist sh^t. The crowd is a mix of young people from all over the world. To be honest, it's not really my scene, I prefer a little more tame atmosphere.

I like to stay by the MBK (a huge mall) shopping center. Across the street is a soi (lane) that has several cheap guest houses. I like that area because you can walk to a lot of stuff (cheap food, shopping, movies, etc.) and it's right by the Sky-Train (National Stadium stop) which is a easy, cheap way to get around Bangkok.

There's a lot of cheap hotels in Bangkok, grab a Lonely Planet Thailand and it should help quite a bit.

  4. Hard to tell you were to eat or sleep if I don't know where in Thailand your going.  As for cost it also depends on when you go.  Nov to Apr is high season and some hotels rates go up as high as 50% because it is the dry season.  Also don't know when your summer is because don't know where your coming from. If Australia or USA summer is at different times.  Best guess would be $30 to $40 a day. Best place to eat is a small Thai stall or restaurant at a cost of $1.50 to $3.  Cost does not including entertaining a young lady.
