I live in Tennessee and it is HOT HOT HOT right now. But we want to cut back on our electric bill so can anyone tell me how much money we will save by not using the AC, and instead using a fan or 2?

  1. You will save a lot, but it depends on how much you are spending now. If you have a simple window unit that you only run in one room for a few hours a day, then it may save $20 or so.  If you keep your whole house an icebox, $100/month wold not be unreasonable.  If you don't have electric heat, you may be able to get a rough idea by comparing your summer electric bill to your winter one. Subtract the kwh used in the winter from that in the summer, and multiply it by the summer rate to get a rough idea.  In the winter you tend to use more lights and probably power for the heater. This will roughly compensate for increased use of fans in the summer.
