we are travelling down to London in October and looking to travel around on tube/bus while we are there (1 week). this is so that we can get to see everything we want to. we will obviously be walking around too but we will probably use the tube/bus at least once a day.

can anyone advise how much we would expect to have to put on the card to make sure we don't run out?

thanks

  1. This link leads to a website which explains how the oyster card works & also gives the ticket prices

If you put a minimum of £10 on it to start & if you need to top up you can do that in any Underground station or newsagents that deals with oysters/travelcards

  2. You need to put a deposit on the oystercard of 3 GBP. You won't want to lose this deposit so you will return the card. I understand that the remaining balance on the card is also returned. So there is no downside to overestimating since you will get the money back. I would do a rough guess and add 10 pounds.

  3. ermm well its kind of exspensive now days so to be safee put around £15-£20 just to be safe..

  4. A bus costs 80p per journey. A days travelcard for use on unlimited use on trains and buses within 24hrs is aroung £5.80.

    Have fun in London
