How much money would I spend?

Can some one explain me how to do the following calculation.

A minivan does 23 miles per gallons, and the gas price is a $4.00 (four dollars) and 50c. How much money would I spend if I drive 1,400 miles.

Try:

1,400 miles traveled divided by 23 miles/gallon in the minvan. means you'd burn 60.86 gallons of gas.

You indicated that gas was $4.00/gallon (I don't follow the 50c part).  You'd be spending $234.47 in gas alone.

Other costs might include:

1) hotel charge (It's a long drive Z)

2) meals?

What size is the tank?

First you would have to divide the total (1,400 miles) by your cars mpg (23) which rounds to 61.  61 gallons total used, multiplied by the total cost of gas ($4.50)= $275.
