  1. their money is three times cheaper than ours.... and i'd say maybe $20,000 so you can pay off an apt for a year... and some money to learn Portuguese in a class.... you'd be fine :-) good luck...i wish i could move there

  2. Depends on what kind life do you want to have.

For a simple life, I think you need around US 1000,00 per month (rent, food, etc).

  3. 1 dollar is 1,70 reais.I think 100.000 dollars is a good money to start a life in Brazil.

  4. lol start a new life. if youre from l.a, and think Brasil is what you see on tv, those postcards. you are wrong. youll most likely get robbed the day you get there. we from south america dont like tourists who disrespect our culture and are ignorant. chances are high that you walk into a favela and have no idea how to get out. but its your choice. buy my advice is, stay in l.a, how can you get Bored in los angeles. what you think brasil is another planet or something ? its a third world country and we keep our people and culture close and hate anyone who disrespects it. and if you dont know the language or your way around, then youre on your own b/c speaking english is rare. you have to know portuguese the right way.  but like i said its your choice.

  5. dude don't listen to the haters- you're only 20. I say do it. If it doesn't work out after a year or two you can always come back and jump right back in the rat race with all these other people in la & you won't miss a beat.

A US dollar is like 2 brazillian dollars.  A fully furnished apartment near the beach is only $300 bucks a month. You can buy a house about 20 minutes from the beach for $3,000.  But the jobs don't pay that much- the best move is to get a job here in the states where you're calling on the phone or e-mailing people, then just move over there and do it.  If you can't get a job like that (which you probably can't because you're young) look into teaching english. If you have a reserve of cash you can make it. Go over there for a week to visit and decide.  It'll be a great experience you'll remember for the rest of your life.  I'd do it.

  6. Do you're bored in LA?

    Do you're kidding?

I made this way for many years ago. It was very difficult, especially learning the language. I'm from SLO - CA.

The amount of money you'll need depend on where you want to live, you want to work, whether you want to have your own business.

I suggest that we learn the language well before coming. If you can, come to know the country before and choose where you want to live. Think twice before you settle something.

    You're insane, dude.

  7. look into travel web sites... you might be able to teach english and live in a hostel (or youth hostel) they are less expensive.

if you want to live the good life it will be more expensive.

    check out

    trip advisor.com

and look up brazil...   rio de janeiro is expensive. but if you can live the backpackers life you'll manage fine.

keep very alert to your surroundings, there apparently is a lot of pickpocketing and theft because there is a lot of poverty mixed in with the "good life"

  8. response to another answer----

money in brasil(its called real btw) is not three times cheaper than the dollar!!!!.

recently, the dollar has been going down alot, its is now (last time i checked.) for every dollar you have, you get 1 real and 79 cents. that is not very much.

as for living in brasil i love it there,

job offers are also getting much much better since the past three months, you should check it out,

as for how much money, just as much as if you want to start a completely new life here in the united states, teh expensis would be the same,

just think of what you would need here, and thats exactly what you would need there,,,

in response to angelo's answer---- dude!!! your insane and have no idea what you are talking about. brasialians are the most hospitable people ever. yes there are favels in brasil, but just like in any other country there are dangerous parts and some safer parts, dont let him scare you, im sure there are some bad parts of LA but that doesnt mean you'll get robbed. favelas only exsist in the poor parts of the big cities.and hopefully you wont have to go there :)

yeah, we are a third wourld country but we are friendly intelligence, a rich country and a deleloping country. jjust like they teach students spanish here, they teach english in the schools in brasil. lots of people speak english, lots.

so if you go, hope you enjoy it there.

  9. Go to www,gringos.com. all your questions will be answered there by Americans, English, and people that have relocated there from all over the world, as well as a lot of advise from Brazilians. As for the language, I managed to learn enough in a year to more than get by on, for a 20 year old it should be no problem for you. In my experience I have meet many young Brazilians who speak English, and as long as you make the effort to adapt  you will be OK. Good luck
