How much money (£) will I need for 3 days/nights in Paris?

I have about £400 budgeted for me and my girlfirend. All accommodation and flights are paid and the hotel includes breakfast. The money needs to pay for transport from CDG airport to the hotel and back as well as visiting a few tourist attractions (i.e. the eiffel tower etc) as well as lunch and dinner every day, drinks, and transport every day (i.e. the metro). Anyone know how much I will roughly need or if what I have is enough.

  1. Hi Rich,

I used to live and work in Paris, and soon discovered that some "tourist" routes of action are rediculous in price terms. As with most major Cities, things can be done economically.

I did have a company car, for example, but evn if it were a hire car, still parking and getting around can be a nonesense.

I resorted to abandoning the thing, and bought a "carnet", being a  wad of metro / bus tickets to get nicely around

Hotels ? well, you can of course stay at the Hilton for about £150/night, so I picked a nice place called " Brettonerie", on Rue de Brettonerie, just a stones throw from the Centre de Ville, off Boulevard St Sabastapol.

There are many similar small hotels close to the City Centre.

    About £60 per night for a twin/double.

Fine rooms, hospitality, family run places.

    Loads of them.

As for eating out and having a bit of fun, avoid areas such as St Germain, a meal is four times the price, and four times poorer than a cosy little back-street place such as "Le Petite Gavroche" - in the local phone book

Smashing grub & booze, with a resident jazzy band, at not much in price more than a decent Brit restaurant.

Check out the smaller places, not the big flashy ones designed to rip you off.

I eventually got a small apartment near the Note Dame, fine, but not for a week or two, unless you visit during "Le Grand Vacance" in August, when letting out a property is a cheaper option for a couple of weeks.

Self catering, but a visit to the smaller shops is also fine.

    Bon chance, et bienvenue, ami.

    Bob

  2. Definitely enough. Paris is not as expensive as Britain you know. £400 is roughly 560€ which for 3 days' expensive is more than extravagant.

The things mainly cost you are meals. A good meals for 2 in a not two bad restaurant in Paris is around 60€. You can eat at any cheaper cafe or even fast food restaurant for less. Depends on what you want most. Don't forget the transport, buy 10 metro tickets at one go will save you money. In Paris, you can walk from one Metro station to the other. You can do this either to save money or enjoy the leisure of being a Parisien. Then there are museum admission tickets to consider. ( that's if you are interest in Museum ) At night , if you want to go out for a drink the best place is Pigalle ( nightlife area , full of s*x shop, bars and overnight cafes ) or St. Michel. ( Latin area ) Of course, if you want to go to see the Lido show in Moulin Rouge it's out of question cause it will cost you €200 for 2 persons a night with show and dinner included.
