  1. Well the Army gets deployed for 12 to 15 months at a time to a COB or FOB.  They are the main occupying force.  This war in Afghanistan and Iraq are  long and drawn out wars which are more of the Armys game then the USMC whose more of a go in blow the c**p out of something.  I don't know what the tards right here are commenting about Marines being "more likely to be deployed because there are less of them", and Marines "raise their hand" for everything.  Try not to listen to morons.  The fact is that if you even join the Army, your likely to be deployed.  Unless you have an MOS, that doesn't play any part in those wars, your going. MANY people in the Army have been to Iraq and or Afghanistan 3-5 times, for 15 month and 12 month deployments.  I know people in the Marines that have only been deployed once.  So again don't listen to them.

My final answer for you, is that if you mean who sees more action in these current wars you can put your money on the Army, not the Marines.  So your question is asked wrong. And this is not a disrespectful post, if there was a new war to start tomorrow the Marines at first would get more action, just not the way it works when it's a long drawn out war!  You wanna get to see some action, join the Army, join the infantry.  You'll be in Iraq/Afghanistan before you know it!

  2. It depends on the unit in question. I know plenty of soldiers who were put in the worst places of Afghanistan and Iraq, having up to 3 fire fights a day, and some Marines who have been in for years as Infantry and have never even been in country.
The same can be said vice versa. It is generally assumed that a Marine will see more combat, because they are usually the first to land, and they don't stop moving. However, traditional combat roles have been horribly skewed in the past 5 years or so, to the point where we have Marines occupying and soldiers doing the offensives. Only until very recently are we seeing a change in this.
Remember that this is not a conventional war, so even combat support units will get hit harder than an infantryman occasionally.
