plug in EVs still create emissions, but they do so by increasing electricity required from the plant. Considering that many plants are coal fired, how much less do EVs polute overall vs. combusion cars?

  1. "DDT"?!? Oh puhleeze! Stop spewing BS. The answerer above you gave facts and backed up their info. Your answer is ill-informed and you gave no references.

  2. Absolutely NOT.  EVs use electrical energy from our home outlet which is primarily supplied from Coal, or Oil burning power plants.  Because these power plants emit CO2, EV vehicles will not help the CO2 emission dilemma.

  3. EV = electric vehcile, HEV = hybrid, ICE = internal combustion engine.

"EVs reduce CO2 by 11%-100% compared with ICEs and by 24%-54% compared with HEVs, and significantly reduce all other greenhouse gas emissions, using the U.S. grid

mix. If all U.S. cars were EVs, we’d reduce global warming emissions. Using electricity strictly from coal, EVs still would reduce CO2 by 0%-59% compared with ICEs (one analysis found 0% change; six others found reductions of 17%-59%) and might produce 30%-49% more CO2 than HEVs (based on only two analyses). On the other hand, if electricity comes from solar or wind power, EVs eliminate all emissions.  Using natural gas to make electricity, emissions fall in between those from coal and renewable power."

Basically because electric engines are so efficient, they drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions even if they get their energy from coal-burning power plants.

  4. They create more pollution and cost more to run than a Hummer but they make you feel better. After all isn't feeling good more important than realizing your being taken advantage of by the enviro hucksters? (Al Gore come on down!)
