How much more energy efficient are LED Lights compared with Halogen Lights?

  1. LEDs are far more energy efficient, and while I can't give you an exact energy efficiency (it depends on your application), I can tell you that if you need less than a few candellas, LEDS are the way to go. If you need more light, halogens can deliver it.  However, halogens dissipate a greater percentage of power input than LEDs (sometimes as much as one order of magnitude more).

    Halogen lamps have efficiency from 2.4% to 3.5%

    Compact fluorescent from 6.6 to 8.8%

    T5 and T8 tube Fluorescent 10-15% (presently this has the best cost to performance ratio, which is why most offices use them)

    White LED 1.5 to 13% (this tells you that there is a wide range of product type, so you get what you pay for)

    Whilte OLED 15%

    Low Pressure Sodium Lamp 27 to 29% (This is reason why street lamps are of this type).
