  1. What grade is he in?

From Kdg-2nd, a full, 6 course, K12 subscription should only take you 2-3 hours per day to finish.  Around 20% of it is online, and the student needs the parent with them the majority of the time (except when filling out worksheets, coloring maps, etc.).

Starting in 3rd grade, the courses become more independent, and the student can work much of it on their own.  There's also a lot of reading that is done offline, and Language Arts work done offline.  If you sent a list of what he needed to do when he's at his dad's, that would work.  If his dad has 'net access, he could log in to his account and take any online assessments, or dad could enter scores from worksheets, etc.

Without knowing his age/grade, I can't give a lot of individual input.  I've used K12 for 5.5 years, and have used most courses from Kdg-8th grade, always as an independent (purchase it myself) user, not as part of a virtual school.

You can do your schedule however you want to - 3 or 4 days a week, on weekends, in the evenings - whatever works.  You could do a lot of work with the baby naps, or sits on your lap, etc.  You could block schedule, and you may even get his dad involved after he sees how great it is - he may want to teach science (my DH teaches chemical and physical units, and I do biological ones - my DH also does math).

If you update with some info about age/grade, and if you're going to use a virtual school (and which one), I can give you additional input.

  2. Hi! I use K12 with my 3 kids. You don't say how old your son is. If he is not in at least 6th grade then no this program won't work for your setting. K through 5 is little computer time with a lot of parent and student time. Once he hits 6th grade you won't work with him that much if he is independent. I only help my soon to be 8th grader when help is needed.
