How much of a chance does someone have of getting killed in Afgahnestan?

My cousin is in afgahnestan and i dont want him to die. how much of a chance do u think he has of dying and living?

  1. you cousin has more a chance of dying driving to work when home in the states then in Afghanistan.  Don't worry, i'm sure he'll be fine.  He'll have a lot of guys who have his back.


  2. Not to sound crude but to answer your question.

    A very good one depending on what his unit is and where he is stationed.

    We know the risk when we join so death is one that is real.

I think he has a better chance of living than dying.  You can't really calculate this kind of thing without knowing exactly where he is and what he is doing.  There have definitely been some casualties in Afghanistan, but not a large percentage of our troops... so if you go by that, he has a fairly good chance of survival.

Statistically -- Your cousin is safer than if he were living in a major American city.  This is particularly true when you consider that military death statistics include accidents -- so by the time you include both homicide and vehicular accident rates in major urban areas -- your cousin is statistically safer in Afghanistan.
