How much of a factor is your credit history if you're trying to join the LAPD?

It's not like I have bad credit or have any outstanding debt, it's just that it's virtually non-existent. I've never actually used my credit card before, I was wondering if this will hurt my chances at getting hired.

  1. use it.. pay some stuff off and get a good credit just for the browny points. LAPD is more strict on just about every part of the backround check but honestly the credit question is just to see if you have debt and are irresponsible. Also people who tend to have debt are lazy and greedy, therefor would be more opt to take a bribe...

  2. Don't use your credit card, i was in backgrounds with LAPD and i can tell you that nothing on your credit is actually good. They check to see how many credit accounts you have open and if you are in collections. They will be happy to see that you have nothing on your credit.

  3. Non-existent credit is far, far better than bad credit.  Being 21 and not having credit is not all that uncommon.

On the other hand, being 21 and having bad credit is all too common and bad for hiring.

You're not in a bad place with the credit.
