Question:

How much of a tip should I give my hairdresser?

I never know what the proper amount is to give her.

Most of the time she just gives me a cut and shampoo and it costs $40.00, so worth it she does a super job!

I've been giving her a $5.00 tip, but I am thinking that's not nearly enough.

Am I right?

If she does more like a Manicure or a Pedicure or both (she does it all), how much more should I give her?

I don't want to be a cheapskate, just don't know what the proper amount of a tip I should give.

  1. Generally 15-20% is the normal tip amount for both hair and nail services

  2. is he not charging you any money....if not...then tip him some nice amount..

  3. try doubling it. or gradually raise it up each time and shell get the hint that shes doing great

  4. ~~As much as you can comfortably afford. They work hard, on their feet all day, and are usually supporting kids. They work for tips. I believe in tipping as something I enjoy doing, so I have to do what I can afford. If you can afford more comfortably then do whatever you can. You are showing her your appreciation, you want it to be something you really want to do, so stay in a comfortable range for you. When I can I have tipped up to $10 for a similar bill. Sometimes I just can't afford to. I usually say "I wish I could afford more because you deserve it, it's just out of my budget right now. They are appreciative always.

  5. $5 is enough
