  1. About 8 out of every 10 tax dollars would go to the military if we operated within normal budget parameters, but we don't.

The president has steadfastly refused to include the Iraq War and increased expenditures to the Veterans Administration in the normal budget, for various reasons centered around the interpretation of executive privilege and congressional oversight.

With that in mind we spend about 500 billion dollars per year (in Iraq predominantly) in the larger War on Terrorism.

So effectively, at the moment, we spend 13 of every 10 dollars of tax revenue on matters related to defense spending.

Since the long term debt has/will doubled under President Bush, and there is absolutely no desire to curtail spending on any programs that are viewed as in line with the president's mandates, our currency has begun to significantly devalue - in real terms.

By way of comparison, Our economic competitors , China, Japan, and the countries of the EU all have far, far more stringent controls upon their governmental expenditures.

The US defense outlay is about 30% higher than that of the entire rest of the planet - combined.

If we strictly considered military appropriations , armaments and career personnel , and do not consider operational costs, or demands due to war, the number drops to about 600-700 billion dollars.

    United States  623 billion (2003)

    China                65.0 billion

    Russia               50.0 billion

    France              45.0 billion

    United Kingdom 42.8 billion

    Japan                 41.75 billion

    Germany      35.1 billion

The rest of the planet has (since 1998) spent fairly consistently the same amount  - about 500 billion dollars on military expenditures.

Since 1998, our military expenditures have increased

about 40% from 400billion dollars per year.
