I paid all of my son's adoption fees as well because it was an international adoption.

  1. Not sure about foster care, but speaking as an adoptive parent, I can tell you that I, myself, paid ALL the fees for my adoptions, and that none of it was paid by the taxpayer.

  2. As much as it takes to give them less then enough... And many of our tax dollars go to other countries to support their children and programs....

Not enough to actually meet their needs and provide for what children really need....

Figure it this way--If the Money isn't put into the Foster Care system or provided to help families adopt children with serious special needs What will happen...

    Pay taxes for Jails

    Pay Taxes for Orphanages...

have American children grow up and have more children that can't be cared for....

The funds spent on Foster Care also include some of the services provided to the biological families, court fees to monitor and terminate the parental rights...caseworkers to over see visits....blah blah blah...

Nice that you brought a child from another country to America and that if fine I respect and understand that decision...But, do you believe that the over 500,000 children in Foster Care will just go away oneday?

Maybe we should stop taking American children out of Meth houses and make drugs legal so we don't have to put these people in jail...and use the money there....

You can get these numbers from the Child Welfare Gateway....

and.... the Adoption Tax Credit designed to make it more possible for Americans to afford to adopt the children from Foster Care has almost compltely been USED by International Adoptive families--so much so that it may END in 2010 because only about 19% of this Tax Credit is being used for the REASON the credit was created....

sorry but this question comes off with a little bit of an attitude and maybe you don't intend that--so I will holf myself from giving you anymore of my attitude...

Why don't we ask How many People Adopt Internationally and then Give Up and put the child into Foster Care in the USA... It happens a LOT....

  3. Ask the NCFA - they get a humungous chunk of taxpayers money for their 'Adoption Awareness' crappola.  ALOT.

  4. I don't know, but there's definitely not enough going to foster care!

  5. I don't think I understand your question.  Do you mean how much money do all fifty states combined spend on providing foster care & adoption services? I don't know, because don't they all spend different amounts?

That's what I thought your question was until I saw your additional comment. That makes me think you're asking how much adoption costs taxpayers. Is that right?

Do you count the adoption tax credit as a cost to taxpayers? It's money that adoptive parents would have paid to the federal government, but get to keep to offset their adoption expenses. My sister adopted three kids internationally and she got I think it was 10K credit for each child. She gets to take it over several years until it's all used up. So she did pay all her expenses out of pocket, but I think the credit gives her back she said everything but her travel expenses.

  6. I'm not sure what you are asking exactly. Are you wondering what percentage of foster care is paid for by government dollars or are you asking how much money it costs to run the foster care system? Most adoptions are private and no government money is spent. In cases where social services is involved -- abuse or neglect where the government has to remove the child and care for it through the foster care system and conduct trials to have the kids taken away -- the expense is mainly covered by tax dollars, and donations I guess. I have no idea what the actual dollar amount is for this but you can be sure it is a tiny drop in the pocket compared to how much the government spends on wars and military and such dreadful expenses as those. It is also a small percentage of how much it costs to keep people in prison or take care of mentally ill people who were not well provided for when they were kids and therefore need such help now.
