I just bought my daughter a fish tank today and we bought 3 female betta fish. The food i bought said to feed them 'as much as they can eat in 2- 3 minutes, 2- 3 times daily' the containers they came in said 'feed sparingly 2-3 times per week'. thats a huge difference. what should i do?

  1. Betta fish are very resilient, they can do okay if underfed, but will die if over fed. If you bought flake type food, I would just throw it out, I haven't had good results. It makes the tank messy and it is hard to know how much to feed. I recommend getting this product.

They are round pellets and you can count out an exact amount (I do not currently have any betta fish so I don't remember how many pieces a serving is, but it says right on the package.)

    good luck!

  2. think "less is more". this doesn't mean that you should starve your fish but it doesn't mean that you should overfeed them either. the more you feed your fish, the more wastes they will create, which is more for you to clean.

personally, i feed my bettas very little [either 1 or 2 pieces of flakes a day or 1 pellet; once a day].

but if you keep them in a tank that has a filter and is a pretty decent size, you should feed them twice a day in small portions.

  3. feed it 3-4 tablets of betta food twice a day, or if you have flakes feed them a tiny pinch...bettas prefer the tablets though so that's most likely what you have for them.

  4. Hi,

I own 5 betta fish. I feed them 3 pellets each, once a day. There stomachs are as big as there eye ball. I don't want to take a risk on them getting a swim bladder disease. Good Luck

  5. I would feed them about 5 pellets for each fish 2-3 times a day. Or whatever they can consume in 2-3 minutes, which is a great way to feed fish. Remove any uneaten food after this with a net. You will cut down on the amount of food sitting at the bottom of the tank wasting away.
