How much oil should be put into a 88 ford econoline after an oil change?

it's a 1988 ford econoline e150, 6 cylinder engine. (bought used and didn't come with a manual)

Should be 5 qts..including the 1/4 Qt. that you should pour into the new oil filter.  Also, you should go with 10-W30 for that particular van...Good Luck!!

Start with 4 quarts and check dipstick. Add 1/2 a quart till its full

in a ford truck, it will take 6 qts, BUT the dipstick will not read correctly. they have been incorrectly since 1983, unless the engine was imported. the manual will not tell you that either.
