Howlett has signed for Munster for 2 and a half years...for that he will receive €400k a season so that in total will be €1m ($1.95m NZ dollars).

they must receive less in the all blacks cause, as with Jack, gear, mcallister, they are all leaving too. so this is a guess put if they receive that much here (in Europe) to leave the All Blacks when they could all keep on going for another season or two...i guess €200k-€300k a year (which is about $390k-$590 NZ dollars). It would have to be lower if any player could be bought away from a national side especially like the All Blacks.

What would you call an average AllBlack?Every one is paid differently,you get bonuses for extra tournaments eg,Tri-nations,end of year tours or a test series on top of a base salary which is good if you living in NZ but a broard its just peanuts.

Players contracted by the New Zealand Rugby Union are on very different contracts than the rest of the world.  The way I understand it is every player in the country is on the same base rate.  From there, you have incentives.  If you are a regular NPC starter, If you make a Super 14 squad, Regular Super 14 starter, Elite Super 14 player, make a rep team, make the All Blacks, All Black regular etc and an extra bonus for All Black captain.

The top All Blacks make about NZ$400,000 (150,000 Euros) before endorsements.  So it is no surprise that Carl Hayman agreed to the 370,000 Euro (about NZ$1,000,000) deal, especially since All Blacks can find a lot more endorsement deals in Europe.  Think about it, take your current salary, multiply it by 2.5, then think about matching that amount in endorsements and you have a good idea why players are leaving for Europe.

The black jersey will bring the young ones home before 2010 though.
