I have been thinking about getting a job as a Hooters girl on Pensacola Beach, Fl. I am in college but Nursing School doesn't start until Jan. so I need something to keep me busy but at the same time, make some extra cash.

Also, what exactly do they look for besides big b***s, ha?

  1. I don't know how much a Hooters girl makes, but it's probably better than most waitressing jobs at diners or bars because Hooters is a chain with a good reputation and a unique culture. With that in mind, they're probably fairly scrutinizing on who they hire. I'm sure that you'll have to prove that you're smart, energetic, (hopefully) experienced, VERY friendly, sociable, able to interact with customers, creative, etc. I suggest you research Hooters and its principles and all that and let your interviewer know that you really love what the company stands for and all that and you'd do your best to uphold its reputation and standard of service. Good luck!

  2. 1st off, tom is an idiot. secondly, while i've never waited tables at hooters, while the economy is the way it is, if you're trying to make a decent living, waiting tables isn't good. when gas prices and food prices rise, people tend to cut back things like eating out. i waited tables at outback steakhouse before and there were times i would come home with $8. of course it balanced out on other nights, but still depending on what bill is due making $8 is gonna sting. i know that florida is well known for tourism, but how big is the industry going to be in the fall? calculating that in with a bad economy and i doubt the cash will be worth if. if it isn't meant to be your cash cow, i say go for it. but if the main purpose is to make ends meet, i'd think twice. and as far as what they look for, if i were you, i'd just go eat there one day and chat it up with a waitress or two to get more info.

  3. you need to be pretty.

and sorry, you don't have that covered. :)

  4. I bring in 300-500 bucks per week as a server (not at Hooters), working about 30 hours per week. And that's in MI, mind you, and in one of the worst areas of MI to boot. What you need to do is find ANY waitressing job with moderate to high prices that serves alcohol. Also, I hate to say it, but look for a place with mostly white, male, middle-aged clientel. I would (superficially) say Hooters is a good choice, but I don't know their prices.

Requirements at Hooters should be pretty obvious. You need to be friendly, attractive, and willing to put up with male BS. Regular waitresses get hit on a lot...Hooters girls are hit on by EVERY customer, and you've got to be able to playfully flirt back if you want to make tips. Every waitress knows this, but seriously...it's even more important at a place like that.

They may or may not want you to have experience. Most places do. A lot of places actually require you to have experience in that restaurant doing OTHER things before they'll let you serve, even if you have experience serving at other places. For instance, you may have to start out as a host for a few months.

Go to the one you want to apply at (with all of your information) and fill out the application. Then, when you're done, ask to speak to a manager. Do this during a slow time, like between 2pm and 4pm. If the manager isn't trying to brush you out the door, ask him if experience is needed, if you'd have to start out as a host, etc. If he seems busy, don't badger him. Thank him for his time and leave. They'll call you if they're interested.
